President Donald Trump threatened to terminate Elon Musk’s federal contracts amid a growing rift between the two.
A feud between Trump and Musk intensified on Thursday when the two blasted each other. Trump escalated the fight after Musk took credit for the president’s 2024 victory, saying he ordered him to leave the White House rather than the amicable separation both had previously claimed. The commander in chief also threatened to terminate Musk’s government contracts.
“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump fumed in a post on Truth Social.
“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!” he added.
Musk said, “Such an obvious lie,” about Trump’s claim that he asked the Tesla head to leave.
Musk highlighted a response asserting that ending his government contracts would be detrimental to the International Space Station. The space station is partially maintained by NASA, which is heavily dependent on SpaceX to resupply it. SpaceX will also provide the necessary space capabilities for Trump’s Golden Dome initiative.
“Go ahead, make my day,” Musk posted in response to the contract threat.
In a follow-up post, Musk dropped the “really big bomb.”
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public,” Musk wrote. “Have a nice day, DJT!”
