The White House went into a lockdown Saturday evening after what sounded like gunshots were heard by members of the press corps on the North Lawn.
Two people were shot and wounded “in an encounter with Secret Service near the White House” a law enforcement official later told CNN.
FBI Director Kash Patel said on X the “FBI is on the scene and supporting Secret Service responding to shots fired near White House grounds.”

The incident occurred near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street Northwest, according to the outlet, and the lockdown was lifted just after 6:45 p.m.
Secret Service members cleared the lawn and told reporters to go to the White House Briefing Room upon the shots being fired.
